JEE Main 2025 exam pattern: The National Testing Agency (NTA) has released the official exam pattern for the JEE Main 2025 examination scheduled to be held in January and in April, 2025.
For this year, NTA has made few changes in the exam pattern. In Section B, instead of having 10 questions with the choice to attempt any 5, there will now be only 5 questions.
Earlier, on 28 October, 2024 NTA has released the JEE 2025 Main registration for the session 1 exam. The last date for applying JEE Main January session was 22 November, 2024.
JEE Main 2025 Exam Pattern
The JEE Main exam comprises of 3 papers namely:
- JEE Main Paper 1
- JEE Main Paper 2 A
- JEE Main Paper 2 B
JEE Main Paper 1 Exam Pattern
The paper 1 of JEE Main is conducted for admission to B.E./B.Tech courses. Candidates qualifying paper 1 are eligible for admission in B.Tech courses offered by NITs, IIITs and various other govt and private engineering colleges.

The NTA JEE Main paper 1 will contain questions from Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics subjects. The question paper will carry total 75 questions each carrying 4 marks.
The paper will have two sections i.e. section A and section B. Section A will have 20 objective type questions and section B will have 5 numerical value type questions .
The total time duration is 3 hours and additional 1 hour will be given to the candidates having 40% disability.
There will be negative marking for both section A and Section B. For every correct answer, 4 marks will be added and for every wrong answer 1 marks will be deducted.
JEE Main Paper 2A Exam Pattern
The paper 2A of JEE Main is conducted for admission to B.Arch courses. Candidates qualifying paper 2A will be eligible for admission in B.Arch courses offered by NITs, IIITs and CFTI’s.

The JEE Main Paper 2 A comprises subjects like Mathematics, aptitude test and drawing test. The paper will objective type questions in Aptitude test and Mathematics subjects.
The aptitude subjects will have 50 questions, the Mathematics section will have 25 questions.
The drawing test will have 2 drawing based questions carrying 100 marks.
There will be a total 77 questions in the paper carrying 400 marks. The aptitude test & Mathematics subjects will have MCQ based question carrying 4 marks for correct answer and -1 for wrong answer.
JEE Main Paper 2B Exam Pattern
The paper 2B of JEE Main is conducted for admission to B.Planning courses. The paper pattern of B.Plan paper is given below:

The B.Planning paper will have Part 1 Mathematics having 25 questions carrying 100 marks, part II aptitude test will have 50 questions carrying 200 marks and part III planning based questions will have 25 questions carrying 100 marks.
As per the official brochure, JEE Main 2025 exam for the January session will be conducted from 22nd January to 31st January 2025. The April session exam will be held from 1st April to 8th April 2025.
